SOUTH BRONX — Each episode of This Is New York brings you a conversation with a DNAinfo New York reporter, followed by a story central to their beat.
This week we go the South Bronx, first speaking with neighborhood reporter Eddie Small then heading on a tour of the neighborhood's neglected waterfront with Mychal Johnson, an environmental and neighborhood activist.
Johnson, who was removed from a position on his local community board by Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. after opposing the Fresh Direct facility that's currently under construction, has since dedicated his energies to a nonprofit called South Bronx Unite.
One of Johnson's biggest pushes is to clean up the borough's scraggly waterfront by cleaning little bits of land that are currently vacant and unkempt, and making it accessible to the people who live there.
