DOCUMENTARY: Group Asks Mayor de Blasio to Drop Opposition to Environmental Lawsuit

Street Visuals

South Bronx residents, faith leaders, local organizations and city-wide friends and allies joined for a community action to preserve and protect the Harlem River Yards against the proposed relocation of FreshDirect to the South Bronx. Gathering at Brook Park, then marching to the Harlem River Yards for an interfaith reflection on the over-saturation of industrial facilities, waste transfer stations and trucking operations in the South Bronx causing asthma rates eight times the national average. Participants would've then had the option to plant sunflowers, renowned for detoxifying soil, along the brownfield waterfront. Upon arriving at the location the gates were closed so participants decided if we can't enter to detoxify the ground and plant sunflowers then no one else will be allowed to come and go through those gates and in an act of peaceful civil disobedience several members decided to sit by the gates until they let us in to plant seeds, instead they were arrested and taken to the 40th precinct.
