FreshDirect is thriving by delivering great groceries fast to New Yorkers’ doors. Now, however, it’s plunging into a trickier business: strong-arming taxpayers for cash.
That’s bad for the city — and for FreshDirect.
Ten years ago, few thought that FreshDirect would work. But it turns out that lots of folks don’t want to lovingly fondle each vegetable before buying. So now FreshDirect has outgrown its Queens warehouse. It wants to move — to either The Bronx or New Jersey.
