The Mott Haven-Port Morris neighborhood has been undergoing a wave of unprecedented real estate speculation threatening mass displacement. Despite a local average median income of $22,471, where 49% of our children live in poverty, thousands of new market rate units are currently under construction touting indoor pools and luxury amenities.
In response, we have created a community land trust to remove as much real estate as possible from the speculative market and preserve deep affordability in as much housing and community space as possible.
Where development takes place with a need for government incentives and/or zoning exceptions or variances, this would trigger public hearings and allow for community voices to be heard.
Where no such incentives are being sought, we have also developed a Statement of Principles on Private Development.
